Cyrilla Marcus Obituary

Cyrilla B. Marcus, age 94, a lifelong resident of Manitowoc, passed away Tuesday night, July 11, 2017 at Kindred Hearts Assisted Living, Manitowoc.The former Cyrilla Barbara Kugler was born on May 27, 1923 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Earl and Emma (Pieschel) Kugler, Sr. Cyrilla attended local area schools and graduated with the class of 1941 from Manitowoc Lincoln High School. She also attended Marquette University, Milwaukee and St. Agnes School of Nursing in Fond du Lac. Cyrilla joined the United States Navy on March 21, 1944 and was honorably discharged on July 7, 1950 achieving the rank of PhM 1st Class. She worked for 34 years until her retirement for the Herald Times Reporter. She was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a current member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish and the Daughters of Isabella. Cyrilla enjoyed playing bingo, going to the Manitowoc County fair for ice cream and knitting many colorful scarfs for family, friends and fellow veterans. She flew on the Veterans Honor Flight in April of 2014. Cyrilla eagerly shared her photos, Honor Flight cap and jacket and experiences in the Navy for which she was very proud.Survivors include her two daughters and sons-in-law: Patricia (Richard) Dornaus, Oregon, WI; Suzanne (William P.) Biaggio, Manitowoc; grandchildren: Rob (Jamie) Dornaus; Erinn Dornaus Sadowy and her husband: Ryan Sadowy; Brittany Biaggio Porter and her husband: Kevin Porter; Bethany (Patrick) Rothe; Hannah and Maria; great-grandchildren: Jaiden and Payton Dornaus; Alexis, Olivia and Caroline; one special friend: Grace, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She is preceded in death by her parents: Earl and Emma Kugler, Sr.; one son: James E. Marcus; twin-daughters: Mary Beth and Janice Marcus; one brother: Earl Kugler, Jr.; one special aunt: Agnes Pieschel.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 9, 2017 at St. Francis of Assisi Parish on Grand, 1416 Grand Avenue, Manitowoc. Father Dick Klingeisen will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with burial of her cremated remains to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Military graveside honors will accorded by Otto-Oas VFW Post #659 of Manitowoc. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. A memorial fund has been established in her name for Easter Seals of Wisconsin or the Veterans Honor Flight. The Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
