Edwin F. Shimon, age 100, of 9025 Cty Hwy T, Whitelaw, passed away early Sunday morning, October 15, 2017 at Wayside Parkview Estates, Wayside.Ed was born on March 10, 1917 at Whitelaw, son of the late Frank and Rose (Hynek) Shimon. He graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School with the class of 1934. He graduated from Manitowoc County Normal and from the Milwaukee State Teacher's College. Ed taught school for several years before farming in the town of Franklin and later Kossuth. He married the former Irene M. Chizek on June 9, 1945. She preceded him in death on May 24, 2013. In the past, Ed served as the Chairman for the Town of Kossuth, served on the Whitelaw Co-op Board, served on the Board of Education for the Reedsville School District and was the former Sexton of the Kossuth National Cemetery.Survivors include his two daughters: Janet (Les) Holschbach, Venice, FL; Kay (Wayne) Craig, Fairview, NC; one grandson: Rudy Craig, Savannah, GA; one sister: Helen Connoly, Neenah; one sister-in-law: Donna Shimon, Manitowoc; special family friends: Scott (Crystal) Schenian, Menchalville, nieces, nephews, their children, and many neighbors and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents: Frank and Rose Shimon; his wife of 67 years: Irene Shimon; two brothers and one sister-in-law: Victor (Blanche) Shimon; Clarence "Pep" Shimon; two sisters and three brothers-in-law: Viola Shimon; Blanche (Clarence) Kornely; Clarence Connoly; five brothers-in-law and five sisters-in-law: Joe (Rose) Chizek; Louis (Marcella) Chizek; Dr. Kathryn (Irving) Bemmann; Helen (Rudy) Mleziva; Emma (Victor) Schenian.A private family gathering will be held with burial of his cremated remains at the Kossuth National Cemetery. The Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Kellnersville is assisting the family with arrangements. Living for 100 years made him quite a force. He will be greatly missed. Grateful thanks to his many caregivers including Sharon Otte from Comfort Keepers, Alicia Binish, neighbor and friend John Tebo, the fabulous staff of Wayside Parkview for their superb care (especially Dawn and Andrea), and the Aurora at Home Hospice Nurses.
