Glenroy "Glen" N. Backhaus, age 77, of Valders, passed away on Sunday morning, March 4, 2018 at Manitowoc Health & Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc.Glen was born on October 28, 1940 in St. Nazianz, son of the late Henry and Imelda (Scherer) Backhaus. On November 17, 1961 Glen married the former Sharon A. Zeddies at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Manitowoc. Glen was employed at Burger Boat Company for 25 years and then VPI Spartech Plastics until his retirement.Glen is survived by his wife of 56 years: Sharon Backhaus, Valders; five children: Scott Backhaus, St. Nazianz; Mary (Tom) Griep, Papillion, NE; Mark Backhaus (Jill), Branch; Michael (Stacy) Backhaus, St. Nazianz; Nicholas (Cora) Backhaus, Green Bay; six grandchildren: Christopher (Laura) Backhaus, Medford, MN; Hope Backhaus and her significant other: Jayson Lefky, Manitowoc; Hannah (Michael) Hoschar, La Vista, NE; Connor Backhaus, Papillion, NE; Gracie Backhaus, Green Bay; Amelia Backhaus, Green Bay; one great-grandchild: Asher Backhaus, Medford, MN; seven sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law: Diane Arnoldi, Sheboygan Falls; Pat Backhaus, Manitowoc; Pat Braun, San Diego, CA; Donald (Jean) Zeddies, Manitowoc; Lorraine Zeddies, Las Vegas, NV; Kathy Rothmund, Manitowoc; Lee (Connie) Zeddies, Manitowoc; , nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Henry Backhaus, Jr.; four brothers-in-law: Ronald Arnoldi; Roger Rothmund; Richard Zeddies; George Braun; one sister-in-law: Maureen Zeddies.A private family service will be held at a later date at Knollwood Mausoleum Chapel, Manitowoc. Christopher Michael Backhaus will officiate with burial to follow at Knollwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Manitowoc Humane Society in Glen's name. The Jens Family Funeral Home & Crematory of Manitowoc is assisting the family with arrangements.
