James Schneck Obituary

James C. Schneck, 75, passed away unexpectedly at home on January 18th, 2018.James was born on December 20th, 1942 in Waterloo, IA, son of the late Glenn and Mildred Schneck. He was the proud recipient of the Alumni of Distinction Award from the University of Dubuque, from which he received his B.S. in Biology in 1964. He earned his M.S. in Biochemistry from New Mexico Highlands University in 1966. James was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, and friend who had a heart larger than life. He began working at Red Arrow Products in Manitowoc as a research chemist in 1968. He eventually bought the company with his partner, Virgil Kreder, and created an internationally recognized food flavoring company that remains an integral part of the Manitowoc community. His love of life, sense of adventure, and hard-working spirit led him into such hobbies as flying model airplanes, collecting pinball machines and restoring classic American cars. His lifelong passion for antique cars earned him awards at national car shows; an annual highlight of his life was visiting the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival, in Auburn, IN, where he would drive his Duesenberg or other classic cars in the parade. He loved spending winters in the warm climate of Arizona and traveling to the northeast to see his grandkids. Survivors include his son Jason Schneck of New York, NY, Jason's wife Joanne Hinkel, and their two children, Celia and Mae Schneck; his daughter Sarah Driscoll of Hingham, MA, and her husband Michael Driscoll, and their two children Maggie and Nelson Driscoll; his former wife, Winifred Drape of Manitowoc, WI; his sister-in-law Roberta Schneck of West Des Moines, IA, and her children and grandchildren, Joan, Chad, Lindsay, and Allison of Washington IA, and Cari, Paul, Ethan, and Morgan of West Des Moines, IA; and his cousin Ronnie Schneck of Waterloo, IA. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jon Schneck. Visitation will be held at the Jens Family Funeral Home at 1122 South 8th Street, Manitowoc, on Wednesday, January 24th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the Melnik Presbyterian Church, 12320 Melnik Road, Whitelaw, on Thursday, January 25th from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Froedtert Hospital or Melnik Church.
