Leonard Schiesl Obituary

Leonard E. Schiesl, age 78, of Manitowoc, passed away early Thursday morning, February 9, 2017 at Manitowoc Health & Rehabilitation Center of Manitowoc surrounded by his loving family.Leonard was born on April 15, 1938 in Manitowoc, son of the late Nicholas and Hilda (Brandl) Schiesl, Sr. He grew up in Kellnersville and was a 1956 graduate of Mishicot High School. Leonard was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving from 1956 until 1958. On August 20, 1960, Leonard was married to his high school sweetheart the former Barbara Benzinger at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mishicot. Leonard was employed as a supervisor at Hamilton Industries for 43 years. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish of Manitowoc, and in the past served as the president of the school board for Holy Innocents Catholic grade school and was a past union member at Hamilton Industries.Leonard was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and good friend to many. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, woodworking, gardening, bird watching and reading history books. Leonard was known for his sense of humor, storytelling, love of nature, incredible work ethic and his enduring love for his grandchildren. Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years: Barbara Schiesl, Manitowoc; three children: James Schiesl (Melanie Jocis), Oshkosh; Carolyn (Michael) Kollat, Winneconne; Suzanne Schiesl, Two Rivers; three grandchildren: Andrew Schiesl; Claire Kollat; Jackson Kollat; his brothers include: Donald Schiesl and special friend: Mary Akins; Nicholas (Janice) Schiesl; John (Connie) Schiesl; one sister: Dorothy Baumann; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 13, 2017 at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo, 1121 North 14th Street, Manitowoc. The Rev. Dave Beaudry will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with burial at Knollwood Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. A memorial fund has been established in Leonard's name for St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Roncalli High School, the Parkinson's Group or the donor's choice. The Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Manitowoc is assisting the family with arrangements.
