Marilyn Drumm Obituary

Marilyn Y. Drumm, age 86, entered eternal rest on Sunday, December 3, 2017, at the Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation Center.Marilyn was born August 13, 1931 in Rhinelander, WI. She was the eldest of 3 children of the late Walter & Florence Yankee, who operated the Red Top Tourist Court Cabins in Rhinelander. She graduated from Rhinelander High School 1949, and from the Wisconsin State Teachers College in Oshkosh in 1953, with a degree in elementary education. She taught 3 years at Franklin Elementary School in Manitowoc, but spent the rest of her life dedicated to teaching her children. She especially liked helping with piano lessons and teaching her children how to cook.Marilyn met her husband of nearly 50 years, Wesley Clyde Drumm, at a Dairy Queen in northern Wisconsin, where he asked her if she wanted to go fishing with him. They immediately hit it off, and she married him in 1956 at the Methodist Church in Rhinelander. Although life eventually took them down different paths, she loved him and her children until her final days.She is survived by her three children: Curtis (Marisue) Drumm, of Manitowoc; Lynn Drumm, of Brown Deer, WI; and Karen (Mike) Mitch of Mequon, WI; two grandchildren: Emily and Charlie Mitch. She is also survived by her two brothers Warner (and late Judy) Yankee of Cleveland, NY and Bruce (Patty) Yankee of Manitowoc; nieces and nephews; special cousins; many cherished/wonderful friends, and her special cat, Chessie. She was preceded in death by parents: Walter & Florence Yankee; and her son David.Marilyn enjoyed helping many young girls as a Brownie & Girl Scout leader. She was a member of American Association of University Women (AAUW) & the Order of Eastern Star. She was a loyal member of The First Presbyterian Church, and enjoyed her friends in Crafty Ladies.Marilyn had many special friends in Manitowoc and her Lowen Road friends in Three Lakes, WI, where they had their family cottage for many years.Marilyn was a lover of classical music, nature and cats, but most of all, her family. In later life she was assisted by her cherished caregivers, who provided unending love, care and support.Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, December 8, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church, 502 North 8th Street, Manitowoc. The Rev. Dr. Matthew L. Sauer and Rev. Judine Duerwaechter will be officiating with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at Jens Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 1122 South 8th Street, Manitowoc on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 3:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. and again at the church on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Manitowoc Humane Society, First Presbyterian Church of Manitowoc and the Police K-9 Fund.
