Bernard Shimon Obituary

Mr. Bernard "Benny" Shimon, age 95, formerly of 3433 Branch River Road, Manitowoc, died Friday, November 3, 2017, at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center.Benny was born August 20, 1922, in the Town of Franklin, son of the late Adolf and Barbara (Chizek) Shimon. On October 9, 1945, he married Grace Lensmeyer at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kellnersville. The couple farmed in the Town of Franklin, moving to Branch in 1967. He was also employed at Medusa Cement Company of Manitowoc for 28 years. He was a former member of St. Augustine Catholic Church of Reifs Mills, and a current member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Kellnersville.Benny enjoyed gardening, planting trees, playing sheepshead, polka dancing, 5-mile walks, and summer biking, but his true passion was softball. He started playing fastpitch softball in the Manitowoc County League at age 14 in 1936. Mid 1960's he moved to slow-pitch softball, finally retiring in his mid-60's and continued donating many evenings umpiring youth league hardball games along with slow-pitch softball games at the Branch Firefighters Park.Survivors include one daughter: Karen Christiansen, Oxford, FL; one daughter-in-law: Colleen Shimon, Two Rivers; two grandsons: Eric Shimon, Oshkosh; Jason (Brenda) Shimon, Brussels; three great-grandchildren: Hailey, Alaina, and Kendra Shimon; one sister: Olive Fischer, Manitowoc; five sisters-in-law: Dolores Shimon, Manitowoc; Irene Shimon, Shoto; Corrine Dose, Manitowoc; Janet Lensmeyer, Francis Creek; Clara Lensmeyer, Manitowoc; one brother-in-law: Arthur Vogel, Green Bay, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife: Grace; one son: Ronald Shimon; one son-in-law: Gary Christiansen; four brothers: John Shimon; Joseph Shimon; Adolf Shimon; Melvin Shimon; ten brothers-in-law: Clarence "Butch" Lensmeyer; Joseph Lensmeyer; Melvin Herrmann; Ervin "Tubba" Lakatos; Raymond Huinker; Joseph Hynek; Lawrence Swoboda; Lawrence Skubal; Erwin Dose; James Fischer; nine sisters-in-law: Evelyn Shimon; Cecilia Shimon; Martha Shimon; Mildred Hynek; Olive Huinker; Esther Skubal; Betty Lakatos; Florence Herrmann; Dorothy Vogel.Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kellnersville. The Rev. Maurice Mmegbuadimma will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with burial to follow in the parish cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. The Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Kellnersville is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
