Dale Umnus Obituary

Dale Arthur Umnus, age 83, of Manitowoc, was called home by his heavenly Father on Friday, March 23, 2018 at Manitowoc Health & Rehabilitation Center, with his wife, members of his family, and his pastor at his side.Dale was born June 5, 1934 in the Town of Morrison, WI, to Hilda (Uecker) and Arthur Umnus. He became a child of God and an heir of eternal life when he was baptized on June 17, 1934, at Zion Lutheran Church in the Town of Morrison. He went on to confess his faith in Jesus Christ as the only way to salvation when he was confirmed on March 21, 1948 by the Reverend Dr. Henry Koch at Zion Lutheran Church in Morrison.Dale graduated from East De Pere High School in 1952. On May 21, 1955, he married Gladys Kasten at St. John Lutheran Church in Maribel. They were members of Grace Lutheran Church and lived in Manitowoc their entire married life, except for the time he served his country in the United States Army. Dale was an automotive parts salesman for more than 50 years, retiring in 2011. He enjoyed his work, and especially his customers who were also his friends.Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Gladys; three daughters, Dawn (Steven) Toth, Elkhorn, WI, Donna Gorzelitz, Manitowoc, WI, and Julie Umnus, Chicago, IL. Dale is also survived by four grandchildren; Brian Gorzelitz, Milwaukee, Angela Toth, Madison, Andrew Toth, East Troy, and Katie Gorzelitz, Manitowoc, one great-grandchild, Savannah, and one sister-in-law; Lois Umnus, Appleton. Other relatives and friends further survive him. Dale was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Elroy. This is what Dale believed: "I firmly believe in the Triune God and that Jesus Christ, God's Son, is my Savior from sin and eternal death. Faith convinces me that after this life of joys and sorrows, accomplishments, and failures, I will live eternally in heaven. This is possible not because I have earned it or deserved it, but because Jesus Christ justified me before God by dying on the cross of Calvary in my place. I now live with him."Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Grace Ev. Lutheran Church, 2426 North Rapids Road, Manitowoc. The Rev. Thomas Pankow will officiate with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. The Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
