Dorothy Poertner Obituary

Dorothy J. Poertner, age 95, a Manitowoc resident, died Sunday, May 13, 2018 at the Aurora Medical Center of Manitowoc County, Two Rivers.Dorothy was born on January 14, 1923 in Pacific, MO, daughter of the late Fred and Amelia (Stricker) Kreienkamp. On February 2, 1951, Dorothy was married to Vernon R. Poertner in Kirkwood, MO. He preceded her in death on May 23, 2013. The couple relocated to Manitowoc in 1953 from St. Louis. Dorothy worked as the Office Manager for Consumers Steel in Manitowoc retiring in 1984. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school and was a money counter for the Church's offerings. In the past she was a member of the Junior Service League of Manitowoc, Manitowoc Yacht Club's Women's Auxiliary and the Manitowoc Elks Lodge Ladies Auxiliary. Dorothy enjoyed collecting recipes, egg cups, quilting, knitting, sewing, golfing at the Elks Club, traveling and was a big fan of the Green Bay Packers.Survivors include her three children and their spouses: Robert Poertner, Roanoke, VA; Mark Poertner and his wife: Pam, Ellicott City, MD; Patti Mater and her husband: Dwight, Buffalo Grove, IL; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: Frederick and Amelia Kreienkamp; her husband: Vernon R. Poertner; three brothers and three sisters: Evelyn Mottert Davis; Fred Krieinkamp; Anne Willming; Raymond Kreienkamp; Doris Smythe; Arthur Kreienkamp. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday May 17, 2018 at the Blessed Angela Chapel, 1635 South 21st Street, Manitowoc. The Rev. Zachary DeArmond will officiate with burial on Friday at 1:15 p.m. at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. Relatives and friends may call at the chapel on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:30 a.m. Memorials can be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church Memorial Fund at 1712 Menasha Ave., Manitowoc, WI 54220.
