Erna M. Raih, age 99, of Manitowoc, died Tuesday morning, January 2, 2018 at the Manitowoc Health & Rehabilitation Center. Erna was born on July 10, 1918 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late John and Amelia (Wagner) Ludwig. She attended local area schools and graduated with the class of 1936 from Manitowoc Lincoln High School. On March 24, 1941 Erna married William E. Raih in Dubuque, IA. He preceded her in death on April 5, 2004. Prior to her marriage she worked at the Aluminum Goods Co. and following her marriage the couple owned and operated Raih Shell in Manitowoc from 1945 until 1970. Erna was a member of First Reformed United Church of Christ, Snip & Sew and the Women's Guild. She enjoyed volunteering at church and crafting projects. Erna was also a member of the Manitowoc Senior Center and the Gold Star Mothers.She is survived by her grandson: Thomas F. Steffen, Jr., Manitowoc; one great-grandson: Kevin Sweetman, Reedsville; one sister-in-law: Lorraine Ludwig, Manitowoc, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: John and Amelia Ludwig; her husband: William E. Raih; one son: Roger Raih, killed in action during the Vietnam War; one daughter and son-in-law: Judy (Thomas) Steffen, Sr.; one granddaughter: Candi Steffen; three brothers: Milton Ludwig; John Ludwig; Kenneth Ludwig; three sisters and brothers-in-law: Inga (John) Mix; Anna (Alex) Kaminski; Marcella (Clinton) Gilmore; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Dottie (Clarence) Stefaniak.A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 8, 2018 at the First Reformed United Church of Christ, 3613 Waldo Blvd., Manitowoc. The Rev. Judine Duerwaechter will officiate with burial to follow at the Evergreen Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. The Jens Family Funeral Home & Crematory of Manitowoc is assisting the family with arrangements.
