Florence Popelar Obituary

Florence R. Popelar, age 96, of Manitowoc, passed away Sunday afternoon, December 23, 2018 at Laurel Grove Assisted Living, Manitowoc.Florence was born on November 4, 1922 in the town of Manitowoc Rapids, daughter of the late Frank and Sophie (Brunner) Herrmann. On September 24, 1941, Florence married Clarence B. Popelar at St. Michaels Catholic Church, Whitelaw. He preceded her in death on March 7, 2001 after 60 years of marriage. Florence and her husband lived in Mishicot for 35 years, moving to Manitowoc in 1989. She worked at Fox Hills Resort, Otto Schultz Elementary School and Forest Popelar Insurance Agency until her retirement. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law: John M. (Darlene) Popelar, Manitowoc; two daughters and three sons-in-law: Judith Ann (Gene) Rogne, Minocqua; Janet (Rick) Reichardt, TN; Mike Petersen. Manitowoc; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law; Florence Baumann, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: Frank and Sophie Herrmann; her husband: Clarence B. Popelar; one daughter: Diane Petersen; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Richard (Mary) Herrmann; Norbert (Jeanette) Herrmann; three sisters and brothers-in-law: Esther (Bernard) Kuehl; Marie (Robert) Schroeder; Helen (Clement) Franz; four brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law: Grace (Jack) Schamburek; Gordon (Viola) Popelar; Darwin (Helen) Popelar; Vic Baumann.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo, 1121 North 14th Street, Manitowoc. The Rev. Jose Lopez will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with burial to take place at Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. The Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Manitowoc assisted the family with funeral arrangements.
