Friedolin Walter Luchsinger (Fritz, Fred), age 100 years and seven months, died on Monday, November 19, 2018 at Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers. He was born in Whitelaw, Wisconsin, on April 19, 1918, and was the first of seven children born to Walter and Blanche (Dufeck) Luchsinger. He attended school in Whitelaw and Manitowoc. He was an accomplished trombonist and played in the Manitowoc Vocational School Band, as well as in the Billy Schultz Circus Band. He later worked in the National Youth Administration in Manitowoc, and the Civilian Conservation Corps in northern Wisconsin. He married Mary Eisenschink on May 13, 1941. The couple divorced in 1974. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II, being stationed in Arkansas, Alaska and California.Friedolin was employed at the Manitowoc Ship Yards and the Manitowoc Company for many years as a chipper and burner, retiring in 1983. He enjoyed fishing and hunting his entire life, and passed this interest on to his son, and took great pleasure in fishing with his granddaughters when they were young. He also enjoyed traveling throughout Wisconsin, and especially enjoyed his 1978 trip during Oktoberfest to Germany and Switzerland (the home of his ancestors) with his dear friend and companion LaVerne Miller. He loved music, watching his favorite Lawrence Welk television shows on Saturday evenings, and took pleasure in attending Manitowoc and Two Rivers summer band concerts, and UW-Manitowoc Lakeshore Wind Ensemble and Lakeshore Big Band concerts, where he could watch his son Richard, daughter-in-law Linda, granddaughters Nancy and Brenda, and great grandson Garrett perform with the bands.He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, his brothers and sisters-in-law Gilbert, Walter (Marian), and Bernard (Miriam) of Manitowoc, and sisters and brothers-in-law Dolores (Ralph) Emond, of Manitowoc, and Donna (Don) Teteak of California, and his former wife Mary. He was also preceded in death by his long-time companion LaVerne Miller in 2005. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Blanche (Earl) Korte of Manitowoc and sister-in-law Joan Luchsinger. He is also survived by his son and daughter in law, Richard and Linda Drumm Luchsinger of Manitowoc, his granddaughters Nancy (Tim) Leigh of Manitowoc and Dr. Brenda Luchsinger of Montgomery AL, and his grandson Garrett Leigh, Manitowoc. He is also survived by three children born to his former wife during their marriage, Harold Luchsinger of Sherwood OR, Mary Bieberitz of Piedmont, SC, and Kathy Rowen of Pickens SC.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 26, 2018 at the Jens Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 1122 South 8th Street, Manitowoc. Deacon Alan Boeldt will officiate with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc.
