George Lenz Obituary

George W. Lenz, age 94 formerly of Manitowoc, was called to eternal life to be with his Lord on April 14th, 2018 at his residence at Bluff Haven Assisted Living in Prairie du Chien, WI.George was born on March 6th, 1924 in Wauzeka, WI, the son of William and Amelia (Rose) Lenz. He graduated from Gays Mills High School and then entered WW2 in the Pacific theater in the Philippines and New Guinee from 1943 until 1946. After the war he returned home and worked with his uncle at the Rahr Farms in Manitowoc. It was here that George married the love of his life, Erla (Stock) Lenz. Soon after marriage, he was employed at Wisconsin Public Service Co. out of Manitowoc and then Two Rivers for 37 years until his retirement in 1986. George was a lifetime member of Redeemer Lutheran Church of Manitowoc and served with many various boards. He was also a member of the Valders School Board, secretary/treasurer of the local union for Wisconsin Public Service Corporation and a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. In retirement, George and Erla traveled to many different states, Europe, and attended many army reunions across this great country. He loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.George is survived by his loving wife of 69 years: Erla Lenz of Prairie du Chien; two sons and daughters-in-law: Richard (Patricia) Lenz of Eastman, WI, and their children: Garrett of Ann Arbor, MI; Grayson of Houston, TX; and Patrick of Houston, TX; Randall (Connie) Lenz of De Pere, WI, and their children: Eric (Sarah) Lenz of Menomonie Falls, Hillery (Clint) Needham of Strongsville, OH; and Isaac Lenz of Chicago, IL; eight great-grandchildren: Josiah, Jackson, Samuel, Silas and Eden Lenz of Menomonie Falls and Avery, Rory, and Molly Needham of Strongsville, OH; two sisters and one brother-in-law: Gertrude Koecke of Prairie du Chien; Dolores (Karl) Mockrud of Oregon, WI; two sisters-in-law: Cleo Lenz of Tomah; and Vernice Lenz of Fond du Lac, nieces, nephews, other relative and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents: William and Amelia Lenz of Wauzeka; three brothers and one sister-in-law: Charles Lenz of Tomah; William Lenz of Fond du Lac; Dale (Doreen) Lenz of Wauzeka; one brother-in law: Everett Koecke of Prairie du Chien.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 21st, 2018 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1712 Menasha Avenue, Manitowoc. Pastor Zachary DeArmond will officiate. Relative and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. A lunch will follow the service. Internment will take place at St. John's Cemetery in Newton. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church towards the new roof or St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Prairie du Chien towards the building fund. The Jens Family Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
