Judy Sprang Obituary

Judy Mae (Bergseth) Sprang, 69, passed away on March 8th, 2017, after struggling with various medical issues for many years. Her life began in Cando, North Dakota on August 28th, 1947; she was the first child born to Albert T. Bergseth and Pearl E. (Reedy) Bergseth. When Judy was a toddler, her parents moved to the Manitowoc area, where she was raised and schooled. She married Jay R. Sprang on April 14th, 1967 in Manitowoc, WI. In 1975, Judy decided to raise her young sons on her own and moved to Sheboygan, WI. To provide a strong example for her children, she returned to school to earn her High School Equivalency Diploma with stellar marks in 1980. Once her sons were grown, she found work as a security officer, a hotel desk clerk, and a bank teller at Wells Fargo. (She was very proud of the bank teller position as it allowed her to use her mathematical skills and to "dress to the nines.")Judy always loved music and had a vast vinyl record and CD collection of ‘50s and ‘60s pop as well as a variety of country artists. In later years, she developed a passion for gardening; she proved to have a rather green thumb. The measure of care Judy had for her family was wonderfully displayed in her incredible capabilities as a cook and a baker. She amazed her guests with delicious meals and desserts galore. (Her lemon meringue pies looked like they came straight out of a magazine.) Judy enjoyed the holidays and her home was frequently festooned with engaging decorations to celebrate these occasions. She always loved cats. (Her license plates identified her as Cat Gal and her license plates holders displayed Crazy Cat Lady.) Moreover, Judy loved all animals.Profound loss is felt by her two sons, Brett J. Sprang of Chicago and Brian J. Sprang of Chicago. Judy's passing is mourned by her siblings: Cindy Bergseth of Manitowoc, Allen (Sally) Bergseth of Two Rivers and Dianne (William) Brault of Manitowoc. She is also survived by her nephews and their families: David (Jill) Brault of Austin, TX and Michael (Irina) Brault of Cottage Grove, WI. Additionally, Judy will be missed by exceptional friends who showed considerable care in her final weeks: Patricia Markowski of Manitowoc, Beth Montgomery-Burns of Sheboygan, Jessica Montgomery Lulloff of Sheboygan, and Gary Kuhn of Chicago (partner of Brian J. Sprang). Judy was preceded in death by her parents, one aunt, and six uncles.Plans are underway for a summer memorial service; further information will be provided when plans are finalized. Given her kindhearted compassion for animals, donations (in memory of Judy Sprang) to the Lakeshore Humane Society or the Sheboygan County Humane Society, would be greatly appreciated. The Jens Family Funeral Home & Crematory of Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed at www.jensreinboldandpfeffer.com
