Lloyd Junk Obituary

Lloyd J. Junk, age 95, of 1319 North 9th Street, Manitowoc, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, January 10, 2018 at River Wood Estates, Manitowoc.Lloyd was born on March 19, 1922 in St. Wendel (now Cleveland), the son of the late John W. and Rose (Krizenesky) Junk. Being orphaned at the age of 12, he was raised by his aunt and uncle, Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Junk. Lloyd attended Maple Leaf School, St. Wendel School, Holy Innocents, Wilson Jr. High, and graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School with the class of 1939. He then attended the Vocational School of Manitowoc to learn welding. Lloyd welded at Manitowoc Shipyards on the WWII submarines from 1941-1944 when he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served in the Navy from 1944 until his honorable discharge in 1946 reaching the rank of EM3C stationed on onboard the USS Lake Champlain Aircraft Carrier CV39.On October 7, 1944 Lloyd married the former Ruth Krejcarek at Holy Innocents Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on December 19, 2017. Following the Navy, he worked at Colt Industries, Beloit Corporation, Hanson Equipment and DM Industries until retiring in 1987 when he and Ruth relocated to Manitowoc. After his retirement, Lloyd taught welding and gave Navy Quality Tests. After completing 40 years in welding Lloyd received an honorary degree as a Weld Engineer. Lloyd enjoyed square dancing and round dancing, he was the president of Petunia City Squares in Beloit, traveling across the country to dance. He also was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish.Lloyd is survived by his one brother and sister-in-law: Earl (Jeanette) Junk; one sister: Ethelyn Bolle; one foster-brother and sister-in-law: Arnold (Helen) Junk, one brother-in-law and sister-in-law: LeRoy (Dorothy) Krejcarek, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; his foster-parents; his wife; one brother-in-law; Dale Bolle; two foster-sisters and brothers-in-law: Adeline (Robert) Van Haren; Mildred (Clarence) Kocourek. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo, 1121 North 14th Street, Manitowoc. The Rev. Mark Mleziva will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial, burial to take place at Evergreen Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by VFW Otto-Oas Post #659 at the church. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. The Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Manitowoc is assisting the family with arrangements.
