Lydia C. Basken, age 93, of rural Manitowoc, died Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc.Lydia was born on August 12, 1924 in the township of Gibson, daughter of the late Adolph and Olga (Zeman) Soukup. She grew up in the town of Gibson and was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School. She attended the County Normal Teacher's College in Manitowoc and taught school in the rural Manitowoc County School System. On May 29, 1946 she married Norman E. Basken in Fond du Lac, the couple then farmed in the town of Kossuth. Norman preceded her in death on February 16, 2008. Lydia enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing and reading. Survivors include her one daughter: Sharon Wanek, Mishicot; three sons and two daughters-in-law: Dennis Basken, Manitowoc; John (Peggy) Basken, Manitowoc; Jim Basken, Manitowoc; Ann Basken, Antigo; eight grandchildren: Jay (Laurie) Basken, Aurora, IL; Becky (Kedar) GC, San Diego, CA; Brian (Amy) Basken, Prairie du Sac; Brandon (Megan) Basken, Stevens Point; Jeremy (Jaime) Basken, Madison; Scott (Karin) Basken, Kenosha; David (Saki) Basken, Tokyo, Japan; Andrea Wanek (Chase Vogel), Sturgeon Bay; many great grandchildren; one sister-in-law: Arelette Basken, Francis Creek, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: Adolph and Olga Soukup; her husband: Norman E. Basken; one son: Ronald Basken; one son-in-law: Randy Wanek; infant granddaughter: Jessica Basken; one infant brother; two sisters and one brother-in-law: Edna (Erv) Baumann; Vera Reedy; three sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law: Lorraine (John) Miller; Clarence (Mabel) Basken; Allan Basken; Irene Warm.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at the Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home, 1124 Main Street, Kellnersville. The Rev. Dr. Matthew L. Sauer will officiate with burial to follow in the Knollwood Memorial Gardens.
