Violet Hansen Obituary

Violet E. Hansen, age 93, of Manitowoc, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, March 12, 2018, at Felician Village, St. Mary's Home, Manitowoc.Violet E. (Jorgensen) Hansen was born on October 27, 1924, in Denmark, daughter of the late George and Elizabeth (Langosh) Jorgensen. She attended schools in Denmark, graduating in 1942 from Denmark High School. Violet married Calvin K. Hansen on May 8, 1946 in Denmark. They were married for 64 years. He preceded her in death on January 31, 2011. Violet worked in the office at J.C. Penny for four years before she was married and after her children were in school, at McKinley School for ten years as a Teacher's Aide.Violet was active at First Reformed United Church of Christ teaching Sunday School, serving on the church council and was president and held other offices in the Women's Guild. She was also a past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star and was president of the Shrine Auxiliary. Her hobbies included reading, golfing, bowling, gardening and playing cards. She loved walking in the summer and winter. The couple enjoyed their cottage at Sand Bay for 21 years and they travelled to 49 states, driving to 48 of them. They also visited Europe, Ireland and the Caribbean. Violet loved the out of doors, all of nature and the day wasn't complete if she hadn't seen Lake Michigan.Survivors include her four children and their spouses: Sharon (Bob) Rudolph, Manitowoc; Sandra (Bob) Cisler, Pleasant Prairie; Scott (Lorraine) Hansen, Manitowoc; Sally Hansen, De Pere; seven grandchildren: Kimberly (Jeff) Buck; Derek (Anne) Cisler; Jodie (Adam) Meier; Robyn Hansen; Tamra (Jason) Fricke; Jessica Schlei; nine great-grandchildren: Adam (Luke Reilly) Buck; Amanda Buck; Trey Meier; Aaron Cisler; Keegan Meier; Calvin Dewey; Chase Meier; Myla Meier; Eliza Fricke; three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law: Eunice (Vernon) Hansen, Manitowoc; Vida Jorgensen, Denmark; Laverne Jorgensen, Kellnersville, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband;.one grandson: Drew Hansen three brothers and two sisters-in-law: Merlin (Gladys) Jorgensen; Lester (Marian) Jorgensen; Burnell Jorgensen; one sister and brother-in-law: Laverne (Harlan) Van Hoosen; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Lyman (Geraldine) Hansen; Marcus (Didgie) Hansen.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at First Reformed United Church of Christ, 3613 Waldo Boulevard, Manitowoc. Rev. Judine Duerwachter will officiate with burial to follow at Knollwood Cemetery, Manitowoc. Relatives and friends may call on Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to First Reformed United Church of Christ in Violet's name. The Jens Family Funeral Home and Crematory of Manitowoc is assisting the Hansen family with funeral arrangements. Holidays were always a special time for her when the family could all be together.Violet's family would like to thank the nurses and staffs at Felician Village at St. Mary's, Holy Family Memorial Medical Center and Holy Family Memorial Hospice for all the compassionate and loving care given to Mom.
